If you've been pondering over which crystal to choose, one of the easiest ways to decide is using your birth month.

Rooted in tradition, birthstones carry their own unique vibrations, which are believed to connect us with the energy around us.

Whether you wish to draw on that universal connection or simply want a piece that's representative of your unique story, I always think it's important to understand the symbolism, healing properties, and energetic frequency of the crystals you choose.

January babies are some of the few fortunate ones that get to pick between two birthstones; the more traditional of the two being Garnet.

Believed to be one of the oldest crystals used for spiritual protection, garnet is the embodiment of the energies of fire, passion, creativity, and strength.

Rose Quartz is the more modern birthstone for January, which helps to manifest the power of self-love and embrace who you are. No matter the birth month, they say rose quartz should be in every nursery to welcome love and positivity.

February’s birthstone is amethyst, usually purple in colour, which has a natural calming energy that is good at protecting. Perfect for enhancing meditation, it aids in curbing bad influences and promoting healthy habits.

Aquamarine channels eternal youth, brings good fortune, and helps assist in communication to calm and soothe. This stone inspires truth and the ability to let go of negative thoughts.

The traditional birthstone for April, Diamond, is a symbol of love, good fortune, health and courage. Diamonds are believed to aid inner strength, provide balance and bring forth abundance.

April babies can also opt for Clear Quartz, which is one of my favourites. As the quartz for clarity, it helps you to restore and regulate your energy, whilst neutralising and balancing.

Emerald is not only the birthstone for May, it’s a life-affirming stone and one of infinite patience. It is known as the stone of successful love and represents great loyalty and integrity.

June's first birthstone Alexandrite, will strengthen your intuition, boost your creativity, and unleash your imagination. The stone will remind you of your purpose in life, and how fleeting life is.

June's second birthstone is one of the most beautiful and versatile. Pearls are believed to bring love, luck, wisdom and peace.

Ruby encourages a passion for life, but positively and beneficially, so you do not end up “overdoing” things. It also helps you to set realistic goals and improves motivation.

Known for prosperity and wealth, Peridot increases abundance, self-worth and universal love. Believed to help with anything heart-related – blood, anaemia etc.

Available in many different colours, sapphires will bring calmness, focus to your mind and restore the balance in your body.

Pink Tourmaline is a stone that will bring insight and help you discover what is good in your life. It will keep things in perspective for you, and it will make you feel grateful for all your blessings.

As the quartz for joy, Citrine will increase concentration, focus, creativity, will and imagination. Great detox stone helping with hormonal issues, the immune system, diabetes or kidney stones.

Topaz is an empathic crystal that soothes, heals, and recharges. Blue Topaz promotes forgiveness and truth. It cuts through doubt and uncertainty, giving you the power to follow your dreams.
